The walking group was established in July 2017 for people in the 50+ age group who wanted to join an organised friendly walking group to go on short walks in the morning of up to 5 miles or longer walks of 7-10 miles over the whole day. Although we state the age as 50 plus we are more than happy to accept walkers of any age.

Walks in East Surrey, West Kent and Sussex are listed in the programme which is published quarterly on the website and are primarily on Tuesday to Friday and occasionally on a Wednesday.

We meet at 10.am for a 10.15 am start.   Lunch on all-day walks will be advised on the walk programme this will either be at a pub/café, tearoom or garden centre or by bringing your own picnic lunch.

Walks are mostly led by two very experienced local walkers.

  • Irene was born in the Peak District where it became second nature to walk up and down the dales and she was a Kinder Scout warden for many years.  Since moving down south in 1980 she has been leading walks ever since and knows the area extremely well and is able to make the walks flexible to suit the different needs of the walkers and also if the weather or terrain is bad a different route can be taken.
  • Graham has walked and cycled all his life and this meant his interest in maps developed. This has led to his expertise in preparing and planning walks for others ever since. He has extensive knowledge of many areas in the UK.

Other members are also walk leaders and we would encourage anyone to become a leader, advice and training is available to anyone who would like to become a leader.

People with disabilities are welcome on our events, but some walks and routes may not always be suitable for their needs or abilities. Our leaders will be able to discuss this with you so please telephone in advance for advice about the walk.

We have also recently included brisk walks as there was a request for faster paced walking to be included in the walks programme, these are around the seven mile plus distance and have proved to be well attended and popular.

We do have a social side to our club, we have interest visits to various places including gardens, historical places etc. We have recently had a skittles event and a barn dance and each year there is our usual Christmas meal.

The membership is currently around 115 people and we actively welcome new members. They are invited to join us for free for up to three walks to see if they enjoy walking with our happy and friendly group before they become members of the club whose annual fee is £15.00 at the present time.

The club is also affiliated to the Ramblers association.

For further information about the club or membership please contact the Club Membership secretary at  info@goonfoot.club

Everyone who participates in our events is responsible for their own safety and personal belongings and joins entirely at their own ris
